It was the CDC's own 1998 in-house study that first found a direct link between thimerosal in vaccines and autism. Since then, mercury was only partially removed from vaccines, and the amount of aluminum, which is itself... a neurotoxin and greatly exacerbates the neurotoxicity of mercury, has increased. The implied link between the MMR vaccine and autism that was suggested by the infamous Wakefield et al Lancet article has been corroborated and supported by several dozen studies. Our public health officials are well aware of all of this, as they have long been aware that the recently-announced rate of 1 in 88 was fully to be expected; as they are aware that if the well-established annual rate of increase in the incidence of autism in the U.S. continues unabated, less than a generation from now every boy - 1 in 1 - will be diagnosed on the spectrum, to be joined by every girl less than a decade later. This is a drastic situation, and has long required drastic measures; the CDC should already have suggested the possibility of cessation of vaccination for a period of three years, to determine the effects on the incidence of autism and related learning disorders.

The mental acuity of the nation's youth is already on crutches. The lack of integrity on the part of the CDC in not openly discussing the role so many doctors, scientists, parents and researchers have stated is played by vaccines is reprehensible. I want to know to whom they answer, because they obviously don't answer to us. ~Shawn Siegel
